Event Fire and Rescue Service Prevention and Intervention

January has led to us being involved in two incidents, a chimney fire and flooding incident. Both in the loca area of our base, the chimney fire was dealt with within an hour of notification whilst the flooding took most of the day to deal with due to a burst water main in the area.

The team are busy preparing to undertake an exercise in early March to run through our Rural search and rescue skills. Watch this space for updates.

Crews have had a busy few days in the run up to bonfire night, 32 extinguishers out to hire, extinguisher familirisation and on site fire cover and all in the last week. Extinguishers were used to help extingusih effergies as they were paraded through Lewes town centre due to accidental ignition.

Crews have had a busy few weeks, Big love then down to Winchester, crews provided a total package of extinguishers, signs, fire applaince and crew for 3 days of a music festival, crews were kept busy in carrying out prevention and thus the vehicle didn't move a wheel.

Crews have provided fire cover at Big love 2009 for the second year in a row, crews provided a total package of extinguishers, signs, alarms as well as on site appliance and crew for the 24 hours.

Crews have provided first aid, Fire cover and safety on 19th June for a private party in the Sussex countryside, attendees partied until 05.00 hrs under the supervision of two crew members from AEFRS.

Crews were called out on 20th May 2009 at 16.30 hours to carry out search and rescue for 3 hours.

AEFRS crews have attended, set up and run a team building evening for a well known Uk based company in london, the evening provided various exercises to bond the group as a team and work together to over come tasks.

AEFRs crews have spent the past three days assisting local police in two search incidents for missing persons in the local area involving searching large areas of rural and wooded areas.

AEFRS have increased the fire fighting and fire safety capabilities with the purchase of a Kawasaki KLF300 Quad, this gives crews the abilitie to get around the sites and fire fight in places the pump is unable to drive into with greater speed and efficiency.

Crews render first aid treatment follwoing child with minor burns - a crew of two assisted a young female at a recent event following an ember landing on the skin.

Operations Manager up-dates his IOSH qualification and carrys out refresher training for all crew members.

Two crew members and a member of support staff have attended phase one and two of Search and Rescue (SAR) training to enable us to be better prepared to assist in SAR at events.

Crew Members from AEFRS attended the scene of an RTC at 12.10hrs on 03.03.2008, crews carried out first aid until the arrival of the ambulance, made the vehicle safe before assisting the police in making the highway safe following a spill of fuel and oil.
